Blue skies, packed beaches and hot sun. These are three things you can definitely expect from a typical Cape Town Summer. You can also expect to see these things in the first instalment of ‘Summer in Cape Town’ – a new four-part series wherein I document my favourite things about experiencing the summertime in my beautiful home city.

Sea Point/ Bantry Bay Promenade
Part 1 takes you back to the beach. Or, more specifically, it takes you on some lovely beach walks. I’m not really one to go chill on Clifton 4th in a bikini or catch some waves in a quick surf on Muizenburg. Basically, I’m not a hardcore beach-goer so I’m more comfortable just taking a walk along the beachfront or the Promenade. If I am up for swimming and relaxing on the sand, I’ll go to Beta Beach in Bakoven. It’s a beautiful, secluded little beach that is very rarely full but has a killer view (see the feature image at the top).

If you’re not really into getting sand between your toes, then taking a leisurely stroll along the Sea Point Promenade is your best bet to get your beach walk fix. I just recently went for a stunningly scenic Sunday walk up and down the Sea Point/Bantry Bay section of the Promenade and, for me, it is the perfect mix up weekend leisure and summertime excitement. Warning: be prepared to encounter several dangerously adorable doggos and committed, tight-clothed joggers along your way.

After only recently discovering the relatively untouched beauty of Beta Beach, I am most definitely going to make it my staple go-to beach escape from now on. The size and location of this beach makes it quite private which is a huge plus if you’re like me and have a panic whenever you wear a swimming costume in public.
